Nassau Valley Vineyard
Nassau Valley Vineyard, located just outside historic Lewes, Del., is the state’s first and only award-winning winery. Nestled on a back country road, its vineyards feature Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot grapes. The business also purchases grapes and fruit from Eastern Shore growers to produce the 14 wines on its product line. Nassau Valley holds tastings and tours throughout the year, as well as a Sunday Farmers Market, held from mid-May to mid-October.
Salted Vines Vineyard & Winery
With a rustic tasting room, large, covered patio and outdoor areas, Salted Vines Vineyard & Winery is a quaint operation located on the back roads of Frankford, Del. With 26 acres of land and several varieties of grapes, there’s a wide variety of red, white and blush wines from which to choose, both sweet and dry. Delaware Bay Evening Cruise
Cape Water Tours’ Delaware Bay Evening Cruise offers stunning views of local attractions, including the East End Lighthouse, Cape Henlopen Point and Lewes Beach. Launching from Anglers Fishing Center, the cruise makes its way to the Delaware Bay through the Roosevelt Inlet for a chance to see wildlife and enjoy the sunset. Gardens and Parks
Delaware Botanic Gardens
Based in Ocean View, Del., Delaware Botanic Gardens sits on 37 acres along Pepper Creek. Since 2012, the Gardens has embarked on a decade-long, multi-phase plan to establish the first botanical gardens for southern Delmarva with a goal of maintaining year-round space demonstrating the vital impact plants have on the environment. The Gardens are open to the public with the purchase of an admission ticket.
Zwaanendael Park, located in Lewes, Del., is not only home to Zwaanendael Museum and the 18th Century Fisher Martin House, but the Fisher Martin Herb Garden, planted with herbs used during the Colonial era for culinary, medicinal and other uses. The garden also features plants used by the region’s Native Americans. Maintained by Lewes in Bloom, a local beautification organization, the park includes a willow fence and arbors.
Lavender Fields at Warrington Manor
Just outside the coastal communities, in Milton, Del., are the Warrington Manor Lavender Fields, a popular agritourism site for residents and visitors. Not only does the property grow and dry its own lavender, but sells its own bath and body products, including soaps, sprays and lotions.
Finwick Island State Park
With 344 acres of ocean- and bay-front, Fenwick Island State Park is great for swimming, sunbathing and strolling the white-sand beach. You can also take in the sunsets from the shoreline of the Little Assawoman Bay.
Delaware Seashore State Park
While it's known for its watersport opportunities, Delaware Seashore State Park is also a great place to tour the life-saving station and view the Indian River Inlet bridge. Be sure to also take a hike through the Burton Island Nature Preserve.
Cape Henlopen State Park
Cape Henlopen State Park features more than six miles of coastline, offering great trails for hiking and biking. Visit Gordons Pond Trail, bike around the park or take in the views from The Point Overlook.
South Bethany Beach
Seeking a quiet beachfront? Look no further than South Bethany Beach. With its mile of coastline and 17 public access walkways, it’s easy to understand why it’s called “The Best Little Beach in Delaware.”
Bethany Beach is a great place to stroll the boardwalk, lay out on the sand, and build a bonfire. Movies are also shown on the beach every Monday during the summer.
For a more vibrant beach scene, be sure to visit Dewey Beach, with its restaurants, live music and scenic vistas. The town also offers weekly movies and bonfires on the beach.
The largest resort town in the state, Rehoboth Beach offers a mile-long boardwalk and a variety of shops and restaurants to visit. A view of the neighboring Atlantic Ocean is also a plus!
