December 1 - December 31: Winterfest of Lights
Winterfest of Lights returns to Ocean City’s Northside Park throughout the month of December. The 2021 event has been modified to an expanded walking tour that takes visitors through animated light displays along the paved path. Attendees are invited to sip hot chocolate, take pictures with Santa and enjoy the holiday exhibits, including the 50-foot Christmas tree. Winterfest of Lights is open to the public Wednesday through Sunday from 5:30-9:30 p.m. Admission is $5 for guests ages 12 and older and free for children ages 11 and younger. December 4: Ocean City Christmas Parade
In celebration of the holiday season, the Town of Ocean City will host its annual Christmas Parade. Starting at Old Landing Road, the parade makes its way northward along the southbound lanes of Coastal Highway. The daytime event will feature more than 50 units, including high school bands, horses, floats, antique cars and more. Plenty of seating will be available along the west side of Coastal Highway, where parade participants will make their way to the judges’ stand at 120th Street. December 5: Ocean City Life-Saving Station Museum Open House
Ocean City Life-Saving Station Museum’s annual Open House returns on Sunday, December 5, at its Boardwalk establishment. Families can tour the museum with free admission and take part in a lineup of festivities, which include visits from Mr. and Mrs. Claus, nautical ornament making, story times and shop sales. December 5: Mid-Atlantic Symphony’s “Holiday Joy”
Residents and visitors are invited to the Mid-Atlantic Symphony’s “Holiday Joy” concert featuring Norah Amsellem, a French soprano who has sung as prima donna at every major opera house in the world. Held at the Ocean City Performing Arts Center, doors open at 2:30 p.m. and the show begins at 3 p.m. Tickets are $30 per person, and proof of vaccination must be shown to attend the concert. December 5: Winterfest of Lights Jingle Bell 5K Run
Run through Ocean City’s Winterfest of Lights display in the Jingle Bell 5K Run. The race starts at 5 p.m. at Northside Park. Fees are $32 for participants ages 13 and older and $25 for those ages 12 and younger.
December 11: Ocean City Comic Con
Hosted at the Roland E. Powell Convention Center, the Ocean City Comic Con returns for a day of “geeky fun.” Take a picture with Star Wars characters, compete in cosplay contests or purchase items from participating vendors and independent artists. Tickets are $10 for adults and free for children ages 9 and younger with a paying adult. A $1 discount will be applied to admission with a non-perishable food item, or $1 off admission if in costume.
December 31: New Year’s Eve Celebration and Fireworks
Ring in the New Year with a free fireworks display at Northside Park. The celebration includes live entertainment, hot chocolate and an opportunity to walk through the Winterfest of Lights. The fireworks display begins at midnight.
Berlin
December 2: Berlin Christmas Parade
The Berlin Christmas Parade celebrates its golden anniversary with more than 80 floats, marching bands, dancers, fire trucks, Santa and more. Dubbed the largest holiday parade on the Eastern Shore, the evening event runs through the heart of Berlin, Main Street, and marches north toward the judges’ stand near the Calvin B. Taylor House Museum. The parade begins at 7 p.m. at the Berlin Welcome Center.
December 4-5, December 11-12, December 18-19: Merry Marketplace in Berlin
The Berlin Welcome Center parking lot transforms into a festival village featuring Kringle Kottage, Santa visits, food cultivators and free grab-and-go craft projects. Kids can also write a letter to Santa and receive a letter back with a coupon for a sweet treat. Festivities will take place around town, including the Berlin Commons, which will host vendors, artisans and a mead garden. Free carriage rides are also available from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the corner of Pitts Street and Main Street. For more information, visit the Berlin Main Street website.
December 31: Berlin New Year’s Eve Celebration
Ring in the New Year with two celebrations in downtown Berlin. A children’s ball drop will be held at 6 p.m., outside the Heart of Gold Kids store, followed by the traditional ball drop later in the evening on Main Street. The party begins at 9:30 p.m. with DJs Big Al Reno & Schwab, dancing, and beer and food vendors.
Selbyville
December 3: 60th Annual Selbyville Christmas Parade
The 60th Annual Selbyville Christmas Parade kicks off the holiday season with an evening of food, floats, bands, beauty queens and much more. Parade participants make their way through downtown Selbyville as onlookers gather along Church Street. The event starts at 7 p.m.
Bethany Beach
December 4: Holiday Happenings
Activities begin at the Nature Center at 10:30 a.m. with a story time and book signing of “Goodness Gracious Golly Gee I Forgot My Christmas Tree!” Then visit with Santa and Sunshine the Clown at a Town Hall party, or take trolley and tractor rides, beginning at 1 p.m. A tree lighting ceremony will follow at 5 p.m.
December 4, December 11, December 18: Weekend Wonderland in Bethany
Held every weekend prior to Christmas, Weekend Wonderland is an opportunity for residents and visitors to take advantage of tax-free shopping, fun activities, Santa visits, Elf on the Shelf Scavenger Hunt and a cocoa crawl. Festivities run from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. throughout town.
Rehoboth Beach
December 1 - December 31: Schellville Enchanted Christmas Celebration
Schell Brothers’ holiday festivities return this year for an Enchanted Christmas Celebration. This year, the company is partnering with Tanger Outlets in Rehoboth Beach to present a free festival featuring a snow zone, maze of lights, Santa and Mrs. Claus, Frosty’s Food Trucks, roller rink and more. Schellville is open Thursdays through Sundays, 5-9 p.m., and every day between Christmas and New Year’s Day. The festival will be closed Dec. 24-25.
December 6: Rehoboth Beach Hometown Christmas Parade
Presented by the Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company, this year’s annual Christmas parade is expected to be the largest the town has ever had. All parade participants and attendees are invited to the Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Station Museum after the event for Santa’s Christmas party, including refreshments, Santa visits and more. The parade begins at 6:30, with festivities to follow.
Lewes
December 4: 48th Annual Christmas House Tour of Lewes
The Lewes Historical Society invites attendees to feel the spirit of the season while experiencing all historic Lewes has to offer with the 48th Annual Christmas House Tour. Virtually make your way through nine private residences and view the holiday decorations before joining organizers live at the outdoor Holiday Village and Market, located at the Lewes Historical Society’s main campus. December 4: Lewes Christmas Parade
The Lewes Christmas Parade returns to downtown Lewes with festivities kicking off at 5 p.m. Per tradition, the parade will be followed by a Christmas tree lighting at Zwaanendael Park and candlelight caroling.
