Ocean City
January 1: Atlantic General Hospital Penguin Swim
Atlantic General Hospital will host its 28th Annual Penguin Swim on the 91st Street beach in front of The Princess Royale Oceanfront Hotel. Each year, hundreds of “Penguins” take a dip in the chilling waters off Ocean City to raise funds for the nonprofit community hospital. The swim will begin at 1 p.m., and registration is required. January 1: Mayor’s New Year’s Day Concert
Community members are invited to kick off 2022 with Ocean City Mayor Rick Meehan and members of the Ocean City Council as they host the annual Mayor’s New Year’s Day Concert at the Performing Arts Center, located within the Roland E. Powell Convention Center. Following a brief meet-and-greet event with elected officials, the concert will feature a special performance by The Priceless Band, a Motown band from New York. The free event will take place Saturday, January 1, from 4-6 p.m.
January 7: First Friday Opening Reception
See new exhibits, meet the artists and enjoy hors d’oeuvres at the First Friday Opening Reception. While the event is held at the Ocean City Center for the Arts on 94th Street, exhibits will also be on display at satellite galleries located at the Coffee Beanery on 94th Street and the Princess Royale at 91st Street oceanfront. January 8: New Year’s Knockout Golf Tournament
Held at Eagle’s Landing Golf Course in West Ocean City, the New Year’s Knockout is a modified scramble format, and all four players tee off each hole. The team member whose shot is used cannot play the next shot. Only three members of the team will play from each spot until the ball is holed. The tournament kicks off at 11 a.m. with a shotgun start and will include gross and net prizes. Entry is $60 per player. For more information, visit the Eagle’s Landing website.
January 14-15: Disney’s Frozen Jr.
The Ocean Pines Children’s Theater presents Disney’s Frozen Jr. The event will be held at the Ocean City Performing Arts Center, located within the Roland E. Powell Convention Center, at 7 p.m. on January 14 and at 3 p.m. on January 15. For more information, email [email protected].
January 14-16: East Coast Commercial Fishermen’s & Aquaculture Trade Exposition
The 47th annual trade expo will return to the Roland E. Powell Convention Center for a weekend of food and fun. General admission is $15 for one day, $25 for two days and $30 for three days. Event festivities will be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on January 14, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on January 15 and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on January 16. January 15 and January 29: Recreation and Parks Midnighter
Kids in grades 5-8 are invited to attend Ocean City Recreation and Parks Department’s Midnighter, a night of Gladiator Dodgeball, laser tag, bowling and food. Held from 6 p.m. to midnight, the January 15 event is open to kids in grades 5-6 while the January 29 event is open to kids in grades 7-8. January 15-16: Delmarva Art Expo
The Delmarva Art Expo returns to the Roland E. Powell Convention Center on January 15, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and January 16, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will feature vendors and a collection of many art forms, from metals to canvas to fiber. Berlin
January 10-16: Berlin Restaurant Week
Join the town in celebrating Berlin Restaurant Week with an array of breakfast, lunch and dinner specials from participating eateries. Promotions and menu items are found online through the town’s event page.
Fenwick Island
January 1: Fenwick Freeze
Join participants in Fenwick Island on New Year’s Day for a plunge in the Atlantic Ocean. This year’s Fenwick Freeze will be held on Bayard Street at 10:30 a.m., and check in will begin at 10 a.m. T-shirts are available for purchase, and all proceeds benefit the Fenwick Island Beach Patrol. Bethany Beach
January 1: Annual Hair of the Dog Run & Leo Brady Exercise Like the Eskimos Plunge
The Quiet Resorts Charitable Foundation and the Bethany-Fenwick Area Chamber of Commerce will host its annual “run and plunge” event in downtown Bethany Beach. The day begins at 8:30 a.m. with the Hair of the Dog Run, with each race beginning on Parkwood and Atlantic avenues and ending at the Bandstand on the boardwalk. Dewey Beach
January 1: Dewey Dunk
Community members are invited to attend the Dewey Dunk, held on Dagsworthy Street at noon on New Year’s Day. Registration begins at 11:30. The registration fee for those under age 21 is $15 and adults ages 21 and older is $25. Hosted by Dewey Business Partnership, the Dewey Dunk will feature swag, music, a bonfire, hot chocolate and Bloody Marys. More information can be found on the Dewey Business Partnership website.
Rehoboth Beach
January 15: Indian River Inlet Bridge Hike
Join a state park interpreter on a hike of the Indian River Inlet Bridge, where participants can discover the dynamic forces that have shaped the inlet over the last 200 years. The interpreter will also discuss the bridges that have spanned the inlet and how the current bridge came to be. January 1-4: Lewes Historical Society’s Virtual “Christmas Tour of Lewes”
View the historical homes of Lewes at The Lewes Historical Society’s 48th Annual Christmas Tour of Lewes. While festivities kicked off on December 4, participants can view nine private residences in the comfort of their own homes using a virtual tour option that will be available through January 4. January 7: The Metropolitan Opera Live in HD - Rigoletto (Verdi)
The Rehoboth Beach Film Society presents The Metropolitan Opera: Live in HD, featuring its 2021-2022 season at the Cinema Art Theater. Held at Bethel United Methodist Church in Lewes, The Curtis on Tour Brass Quintet features talented performers from Philadelphia’s premier music conservatory. January 28-30: The Winter Delmarva Dogfish BirdINNg Weekend
Now in its seventh year, Delmarva Birding Weekends will host its Winter Delmarva Dogfish BirdINNg Weekend from January 28-30.
